The equity benchmark indices closed in the red on Thursday after RBI kept repo rates unchanged.
Sensex ended 581.79 points lower at 78,886.22, whereas Nifty concluded 180.50 points down at 24,117.00.
LTIMindtree, Grasim Industries, Asian Paints, Power Grid Corp and Infosys were among major losers on the Nifty, while gainers included HDFC Life, Tata Motors, SBI Life Insurance, HDFC Bank and Cipla.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 874.94 points higher at 79,468.01, whereas Nifty concluded 304.95 points up at 24,297.50.
In a move reflecting its cautious approach amid ongoing economic uncertainties, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at 6.5 per cent. This marks the ninth consecutive time the central bank has opted for stability in its monetary policy.
