Budaun: Sugar mill asked to clear cane dues before starting new crushing season

Budaun, Uttar Pradesh: District Magistrate Nidhi Srivastava held a review meeting on sugarcane price payments at her camp office. During the meeting, the DM directed the manager of Yadu Sugar Mill to ensure that the remaining 33 per cent of the sugarcane price is paid to the farmers before the start of the new crushing season, reports Live Hindustan.

In the review, the DM also instructed that a proposal for the expansion of the Kisan Cooperative Sugar Mill in Shekhupur be prepared and sent to the government for approval. Additionally, she emphasized the need to raise awareness among farmers about the red rot disease affecting sugarcane and to encourage them to plant alternative varieties instead of the CO 238 variety.

District Cane Officer Asharfi Lal reported that Sugar Mill has already made 67 per cent of the payments for the 2023-24 crushing season, with 33 per cent still pending. He mentioned that farmers will be encouraged to switch from the CO 238 variety, which is susceptible to red rot, to other varieties such as CO 118, CO 15023, CO 13235, and CO 14201 (CO LK). Senior General Manager of Cane at Sugar Mill, Paropkar Singh, was also present at the meeting.
