BPCL sets up India’s first biofuel blend HFHSD bunker at Mumbai Port

On Friday, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), a public sector oil marketing company, announced the establishment of a biofuel blend High Flash High-Speed Diesel (HFHSD) bunker at Mumbai Port.

This facility, the first of its kind in India by an oil marketing company, offers shipping firms a cleaner and biodegradable alternative to traditional fuels, according to BPCL’s statement.

The move not only promotes environmental sustainability but also enhances BPCL’s leadership in the Indian bunkering sector. Additionally, it supports the global push to decarbonize the shipping industry and is one of several green initiatives by the company.

Sukhmal Jain, Director (Marketing) at BPCL, commented, “Our Project Aspire, focused on green energy, is propelling our efforts toward a cleaner future. This biofuel blend bunker is a major milestone in that journey and solidifies BPCL’s position as a global leader in bunkering.”

BPCL’s entry into biofuel blends is part of a broader strategy to diversify its green bunker fuel portfolio, which includes LNG, hydrogen, and methanol, to remain at the forefront of the evolving energy sector, Jain added.

The company, known for its strong presence along the Western coast and as a marine fuel supplier, was the first OMC in India to offer IMO 2020-compliant bunker fuel and has continually showcased its leadership in the Indian bunkering market.
