Karnataka, Haveri: The office-bearers of the State Sugarcane Growers’ Association have requested that sugar mills begin operations from October 1, as the sugarcane crop will be ready for harvest.
In a recent memorandum submitted to Sugar Minister Shivanand Patil, the office-bearers emphasized that sugar mills should be instructed to commence sugarcane crushing from October 1, as per the farmers’ demand, reported Deccan Herald.
The mills used to be opened in the last week of September or October 1 for the past several years in the district. But, it has been told that the mills will open in November, they noted.
