Egypt’s sugar production for the marketing year 2024/25 (October-September) is projected to be 2.6 million metric tons, which is 110,000 tons lower than the USDA’s official estimate for 2023/24 due to reduced cane sugar output.
According to the USDA Cairo Post, total domestic sugar consumption for 2024/25 is expected to reach 3.75 million tons, an increase of 350,000 tons from the USDA’s official estimate for MY2023/24. This rise is attributed to population growth and greater demand for calories from sweeteners, sugary beverages, and confectionery items. Imports are anticipated to reach 1.5 million tons, 500,000 tons more than the 2023/24 USDA estimate, to compensate for domestic production shortfalls and increased demand.
