Uttar Pradesh: Progressive farmers in Maharajganj achieve impressive sugarcane yields

Maharajganj: Farmers in Maharajganj district are now matching the success of their counterparts in Western Uttar Pradesh by achieving impressive sugarcane yields, with some even doubling the average production. Although only about a dozen farmers in the region have reached these high levels of productivity, their achievements are motivating others to pursue greater yields, reports Live Hindustan.

The progressive farmers of the Siswan area of Maharajganj are so enthusiastic that they are emulating the advanced techniques of farmers in Western Uttar Pradesh for sugarcane farming. By consulting agricultural scientists and trying new techniques, farmers are trying to boost their sugarcane produce. This year also, the Cane Department has conducted crop-cutting tests and is hopeful of positive results.

In Maharajganj district, the average sugarcane yield is 695 quintals per hectare. However, a group of about a dozen farmers from the Siswan area, by making timely changes in their farming methods last year, achieved a remarkable yield of 1,400 quintals per hectare. One of these farmers, Sudhir Kumar, has even started producing sugarcane seeds. Other farmers, like Dharmendra Kumar and Rajkumar Yadav, are also cultivating high-quality sugarcane.

Farmers in the district continue to struggle with the red rot disease, a major threat to sugarcane crops. This disease can severely damage the crops, and when it strikes, farmers receive no compensation for their losses.
