On Wednesday, industry group UNICA reported that sugar production in Brazil’s key center-south region reached 3.11 million metric tonnes in the first half of August. This figure represents a 10.24% decline compared to the same period last year.
According to UNICA’s report, sugarcane crushing during this period fell by 8.57% to 43.83 million tonnes.
UNICA also noted that average sugarcane yields as of early August had decreased by 12.2% from the previous year, reaching 86.6 tonnes per hectare.
The group clarified that the reduction in crushed volume in early August was not due to recent fires in sugarcane fields, as their effects were felt in the subsequent two weeks.
