Mysuru: Dr Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner of Mandya, warned sugar factories in the district with strict adherence to their allotted territorial areas for harvesting and crushing of sugarcane, reports The Hindu.
The Deputy Commissioner, who reviewed the progress of sugar factories for the 2024-25 season, discussed various industry and cultivation issues with them, including territorial jurisdiction, during a meeting here on Thursday, August 29, and asked the factories to adhere to the allotment made to them.
He explained that the sugar factories are not allowed to work outside their territories, warning that any such factory found flouting this guideline shall be dealt with. “Already, the factories have been told to stick to their territory but if they continue to transgress the guideline, then action has to be taken against defiant sugar factories,” he warned.
The meeting also took up the issue of some factories buying sugarcane from areas outside their limits. Dr. Kumar insisted upon coordination on all operational aspects among the five sugar factories in the district for hassle-free functioning. He further reiterated that payments to farmers shall be made within 14 days of purchasing sugarcane.
Additionally, Dr Kumar highlighted the responsibility of the sugar factories to provide basic facilities for workers, especially those who travel from other districts to harvest sugarcane in Mandya. “These workers must be provided with adequate facilities,” he said.
