2023-24 crop: Sugar production reaches 1.1 million tonnes, says Vietnam Sugarcane Association

According to the Vietnam Sugarcane Association (VSA), sugar production for the 2023-2024 crop totaled 1.1 million tonnes, marking an 18.4% increase from the previous crop, reported Vn Economy.

The sugar yield reached 6.79 tonnes per hectare, surpassing that of key regional producers like Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

The total area harvested for sugarcane was estimated at over 163,000 hectares, up 11.4% from the previous crop.

The sugar industry has been recovering since 2021, following Vietnam’s implementation of measures to combat trade remedy evasion on certain imported sugar products.
