Kolhapur district collector announces plans to create database for sugarcane cutters

Kolhapur: Kolhapur District Collector Amol Yedge has announced plans to set up a database for sugarcane cutters that come into the district for the upcoming harvest season, which would start around November 15. The season lasts for three to four months. Local sugar mills have been instructed to collect details such as the workers’ names, contact numbers, Aadhar numbers, age, and gender, reported Times of India.

“Each sugarcane cutter will be given an identity card, along with medical check-ups, necessary medicines, and ration supplies,” Yedge said.

Additionally, Yedge directed the mills to establish temporary schools, known as Balsanskar Gruha, for the children of the workers. “The administration will provide Education Guarantee Cards to the kids from their native place,” he added.
