Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to Pune, Maharashtra, on Thursday has been canceled due to heavy rain in the city.
PM Modi was set to flag off the Metro train that would operate between the district court and Swargate in Pune, as well as inaugurate and lay the foundation for various projects worth over Rs 20,900 crore.
Severe waterlogging affected several parts of Maharashtra as a result of the heavy rains, disrupting train, bus, and flight services in Mumbai and Pune. Train and bus operations were resumed on Thursday morning as water levels decreased in many areas.
According to Central Railways, local trains are running normally, though the main line is operating 3-4 minutes behind schedule due to rescheduled mail express services and some cautionary measures. Overall, services are back to normal.
Western Railway suburban services were also restored on Thursday, with water receding at several stations despite the ongoing rainfall.
However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy rain in multiple regions of the state.
In response to the IMD forecast, the city administration declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Mumbai. Similarly, the Pune district administration announced a holiday for educational institutions due to predictions of heavy rainfall in the city, with the IMD issuing an orange alert for Pune.
