BSE Sensex and Nifty50, the Indian equity benchmark indices, tanked in trade on Thursday, dipping over 2% amid selling across the sectors.
Sensex ended 1,769.19 points lower at 82,497.10, whereas Nifty concluded 546.80 points down at 25,250.10.
Biggest Nifty losers were Asian Paints, L&T, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Axis Bank are among, while gainers were JSW Steel, Tata Steel.
All the sectoral indices ended in the red with realty down 4 percent and auto, bank, capital goods index down 2-3 percent.
The sell-off was driven by rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, regulatory changes in the futures and options (F&O) segment, and concerns over foreign investment outflows.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 33.49 points lower at 84,266.29, whereas Nifty concluded 13.95 points down at 25,796.90.
Indian rupee ended 14 paise lower at 83.96 per dollar on Thursday versus Tuesday’s close of 83.82.
