USDA report predicts rise in China’s 2024/25 sugar production

According to a new report issued by the Foreign Agricultural Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, China will see increase in sugar production by 600,000 tons for the 2024/25 season. The total amount of sugar the country will produce will rise to 11 million metric tons, the report said. This is positive as a result of more acreage in sugarcane and more in sugar beets after alternative crops have become less profitable, reports XM.

Despite the rise in production, China’s sugar consumption for 2024/25 is expected to dip slightly to 15.6 million tons, down by 100,000 tons. The adjustment reflects a sluggish economic recovery in the country.

The report also predicts that China’s imports of both raw and processed sugar will remain relatively high, which is expected to lead to an increase in the country’s sugar stocks for 2024/25.
