Lakhimpur Kheri: The recent floods have caused damages to sugarcane crop in Lakhimpur Kheri district. As per the report of the sugarcane department, sugarcane crops are damaged in the current floods, and the damage may lower sugar output, reported Live Hindustan.
In the year, two waves of floods occurred in the Lakhimpur Kheri district, one in July and the other in September. Both of them caused considerable damage to the sugarcane crops.
The survey revealed that 908 hectares of land were destroyed, while 20,321 hectares of crops were damaged by 50 to 75 per cent. Additionally 25,482 hectares were reported to have sustained 25 to 50 per cent damage. The areas most affected by the floods were those that supply sugar to the Aira, Bajaj, and Cooperative Sugar Mills.
District Cane Officer Ved Prakash Singh stated that the survey results have been sent to the government, detailing the damage to the sugarcane crops. He added that the destruction caused by the floods is expected to have a impact on the district’s sugar production this year.
