Uttarakhand: DM asks sugar mills to complete repair and maintenance work in time

Rudrapur, Uttarakhand: District Magistrate and Managing Director of Uttarakhand Sugars, Udayraj Singh has asked the sugar mills to complete the repair and maintenance work in time to ensure that the mills start crushing operations in time, reported Live Hindustan.

He was speaking at a review meeting organized at the auditorium in the district collectorate. It was presided over by the DM to deliberate on the onset of the crushing season for the cooperative and public sector sugar mills of the year 2024-25.

Managing Director Singh reviewed the ongoing boiler upgrade work at the Kichha and Nadehi mills in the meeting. He regretted the slow pace of technical work at the Nadehi and Bajpur mills and the slowdown in sugarcane cultivation as against the previous year. He instructed that the repairs and maintenance work at the Nadehi and Bajpur be completed well in time and that equipment trails at the mills be over by October-end to get into operations. He also instructed officials to coordinate with sugarcane officers to take effective measures to increase sugarcane cultivation.

Singh raised concerns about the high expenditure on electricity at the Bajpur sugar mill and directed the preparation of a list of unauthorized individuals residing in the mill committee’s housing, in addition to permanent and seasonal workers. He called for immediate reporting to the headquarters and necessary actions to evict unauthorized residents. Singh emphasized that all repairs and maintenance work at the mills must be completed on time, and equipment trials should be finished by the first week of November.

The meeting was attended by Vijay Pandey, General Manager of Uttarakhand Sugars; T.S. Martolia, Managing Director of Kichha Sugar Mill; Harveer Singh from Bajpur Sugar Mill; and Dinesh Pratap Singh, Chief Manager of Nadehi Sugar Mill, among others.
