Amroha: Sugar mills in district may start operations in first week of November

Amroha, Uttar Pradesh: Preparations for sugarcane crushing have begun in all three sugar mills in the district, with the crushing season expected to start in the first week of November. However, the increased sugarcane cultivation and production have posed a challenge for the mills. While the district’s sugar mills have not yet officially announced the start date for the crushing season, the government and local administration have instructed them to begin operations soon. Due to the rise in production, there is pressure to start the mills earlier, reported Live Hindustan.

Currently, repair and maintenance work at the mills has been completed, and the management is preparing to start the crushing season shortly. According to District Cane Officer (DCO) Manoj Kumar, all sugar mills have been instructed to announce the date for the commencement of the crushing season as soon as possible. Once the sugar mills start operating on time, farmers will not be forced to take their sugarcane to smaller crushers, and wheat sowing can also proceed on schedule.

It is noteworthy that more than 100,000 hectares of land in the district are dedicated to sugarcane cultivation, with over 125,000 farmers relying directly on sugarcane farming for their livelihood. Last year, the district had 98,468 hectares of sugarcane cultivation, but this year the area has increased by 2.06%, reaching 100,506 hectares.
