Karnal, Haryana: The Karnal sugar mill will be providing a harvesting machine to the sugarcane farmers to help them harvest cane and send it to the mill for crushing, reported Amar Ujala.
The decision in this regard was taken at the Board meeting of the sugar mill.
The board, reviewing the past three years’ financial performance, expressed satisfaction with the mill’s income and expenses. Responding to farmers’ and shareholders’ requests, Managing Director Hitendra Kumar agreed to provide a cane-harvesting machine to help ease labour shortages.
Kumar encouraged farmers to submit their feedback within two days, confirming that the mill would arrange these machines based on their response. The meeting was chaired by Senior Director Surendra Sharma Barauta, and attended by board members and shareholders.
Director Ompal Madan praised Kumar’s work, highlighting new services like a token system and a canteen for farmers. He emphasized that farmers should share in the mill’s profits since they contribute even during tough times. Madan also stressed that timely payments should be made within three days and suggested that the mill help farmers by providing harvesting machines due to ongoing labour shortages.
Farmer leader Shyam Singh Rana and his team submitted a request to the Managing Director, asking for the mill’s operations to begin by November 12. They also requested that farmers not be fined for supplying less cane, that shares of former shareholders be transferred to their families, and that farmers receive sugar at discounted rates like mill employees.
