Punjab should get fresh investments for setting up CBG and ethanol plants: Hardeep Singh Puri

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri emphasized on Tuesday that Punjab should attract new investments for establishing compressed biogas (CBG) and ethanol plants. He mentioned that he has written to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann multiple times, but no progress has been made, reported PTI.

Speaking to the media during the Rozgar Mela, Puri urged that entrepreneurs in Punjab be encouraged to set up CBG plants.

“I feel pain that CBG plants are increasing in the country, but here (Punjab) CBG plants are finding it hard to run. If a CBG plant is run, it will benefit farmers. If an ethanol plant is set up, it will benefit farmers as they are run on biomass,” he stated.

“I wrote many letters to the (Punjab) CM in this regard, and I always got a response that they are doing it, but nothing happens on the ground,” he further added.

Puri reiterated that Punjab should seek new investments in energy for the establishment of CBG and ethanol plants.

Regarding protests in some villages against CBG plants, he noted that operational plants in Punjab are being shut down, calling it a “very sad situation.”
