The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has reduced the price of sugar by Rs 13 per kilogram, bringing the new price to Rs140 per kg at its stores. This price change is effective immediately, reports Profit.
The reduction follows successful negotiations with sugar mills, which agreed to lower their selling price to USC by Rs17 per kg. Previously, sugar was priced at Rs153 per kg in USC stores, making the new price a welcome relief for consumers facing rising costs.
The USC has purchased 12,000 metric tonnes of sugar from the mills at a negotiated price of Rs137 per kg. While this is below the previous wholesale price, the USC’s overall cost, including storage, transportation, and administrative expenses, amounts to Rs152 per kg. To ensure sugar remains affordable, USC secured discounts from sugar mills, helping to keep prices lower for consumers.
