Uttar Pradesh: More than 12 sugar mills begin crushing operations in Moradabad Division

Moradabad: After Diwali, most of the sugar mills in Moradabad division started purchasing sugarcane. Moradabad division has a total of 23 sugar mills, out of which over 12 have also begun crushing the cane, reported Hindustan Samachar.

The Majhawali sugar mill in Sambhal has already paid farmers ₹1.65 crore for cane purchased and crushed up until October 31.

Of the 23 mills in the division, 10 are located in Bijnor district. This is due to Bijnor’s prominent role in sugarcane production across Uttar Pradesh, as the district’s soil is particularly suitable for sugarcane cultivation. Farmers in Bijnor produce large quantities of sugarcane, making it a vital agricultural hub in western Uttar Pradesh. The Majhawali sugar mill in Sambhal was the first in the division to start operations. Six sugar mills in Bijnor are already operational, along with several mills in Amroha and Moradabad. The PBS Foods Sugar Private Limited mill in Chandpur (Bijnor) is set to begin operations soon. Other mills like the Najeebabad Cooperative Sugar Mill will start on November 11, Moradabad’s Belwara and Raninangal mills on November 8, Triveni Sugar Mill in Milak Narayanpur (Rampur) on November 8, and Bilaspur Cooperative Sugar Mill on November 29.

Deputy Sugarcane Commissioner Harpal Singh stated that over 12 mills in the division were operational by Thursday and assured that farmers will face no issues, with all necessary arrangements in place.
