Telangana: New factory in Zaheerabad starts operations; relief for sugarcane farmers

Zaheerabad, Telangana: After years of struggle, sugarcane farmers in the Zaheerabad region are hopeful that their long-standing challenges may soon come to an end, with the commencement of a new factory in Matoor, Regode Mandal. The factory, Godavariganga Agro Products Private Limited, began its crushing operations on Friday, offering relief to farmers.

The previous Trident Sugars plant located in Kothur-B had failed to pay farmers on time for the sugarcane purchased, leading to a backlog of unpaid dues. Despite efforts by government officials, the company had struggled to settle the arrears. This forced many farmers to transport their sugarcane to far-off places like Sangareddy, Kamareddy, Wanaparthy, and even out of state to Karnataka and Maharashtra.

With the arrival of Godavariganga Agro Products’ new facility, farmers in Zaheerabad, Raikode, Nyalkal, Jharasangam, Vattipally, and other areas in the district now have a local option for selling their produce. The company has already made agreements with several farmers in the region, ensuring purchase of their produce.

Farmers are optimistic that the new factory will encourage more sugarcane cultivation in the Sangareddy and Kamareddy districts, boosting the local agricultural economy in the coming years.

The opening ceremony, which marked the start of crushing operations at the new factory, was attended by Health Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha, Zaheerabad MP Suresh Shetkar, and other dignitaries, who expressed their support for the farmers and the growth of the region’s sugar industry.
