BSF continues to thwart sugar smuggling attempts

The Border Security Force (BSF) has been actively countering sugar smuggling attempts along the Indo-Bangladesh border in last few days, successfully intercepting several such operations.

On November 25, 2024, the vigilant troops of the 4th Battalion of BSF Meghalaya, acting on specific intelligence, thwarted a major sugar smuggling attempt in the East Khasi Hills district. The forces seized four vehicles loaded with sugar worth over ₹6 lakhs, preventing it from being smuggled across the international border.

In Tripura, BSF has also been on high alert, successfully disrupting multiple smuggling attempts. On November 22, 2024, BSF Tripura intercepted several trans-border smuggling operations, seizing 850 kilograms of sugar, 20 kilograms of ganja, 47 bottles of Phensedyl, and other contraband items, with an estimated value of around 4.95 lakhs.

Earlier, on November 20, 2024, BSF Tripura informed that BSF, in a joint operation with customs, successfully seized a vehicle loaded with 700 bags of sugar worth ₹19.80 lakhs and apprehended two suspects involved in the illegal trade.

These ongoing efforts by the BSF have been crucial in preventing sugar from entering Bangladesh through the porous Indo-Bangladesh border.
