Agra: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) spokesperson Rakesh Tikait had demanded the government to hike sugarcane price from the current ₹370 per quintal to over ₹450 per quintal, reported the Times of India.
He criticised the state government for not raising sugarcane prices highlighting the financial struggles faced by farmers amid rising inflation.
“Why hasn’t the price of sugarcane increased?” Tikait questioned. “Inflation keeps climbing yearly, allowances go up, but crop prices remain unchanged,” he said. He also called for implementing recommendations from the Swaminathan Committee to ensure fair pricing for crops and secure farmers’ livelihoods.
Tikait further urged the government to introduce a law guaranteeing Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all crops.
