Panaji: The Goa government’s ambitious proposal to transform the Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana (SSSK) into an ethanol manufacturing facility under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model has hit a snag due to a lack of interest from bidders. The state has now decided to put the project on hold temporarily.
Despite releasing two Requests for Qualification (RFQ) this year, in January and May, the government failed to attract any bidders for the redevelopment of the sugar factory located in Dharbandora village. Even a revised RFQ, aimed at making the project more appealing, yielded no results.
As per the media report by The Goan, Agriculture Director Sandeep Fol Dessai stated, “A RFQ was invited twice for redevelopment of SSSK into an ethanol manufacturing unit under public private partnership mode but no bidders came forward. We even issued a revised RFQ to attract bidders. But, no decision has been taken so far, to issue RFQ again.”
As per the report, the facility, which has been closed since 2019, is currently managed by an administrator in the absence of a board of directors. Earlier efforts to engage the Sanjivani Sugarcane Producers Association in identifying contractors also failed, as the association did not recommend any suitable parties.
