Kasaragod: The price of ration sugar for beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) in Kerala has been increased. The cost, which was earlier Rs 21 per kg, has now been raised to Rs 27 per kg.
Additionally, the commission for ration traders has been doubled. This marks the first price hike since August 2018, when the price of ration sugar was raised from Rs 13.5 to Rs 21 per kg.
Supplyco had quoted a price of Rs 31 per kg to cut the state’s annual bill for sugar distribution through ration. However, the commissioner for Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs put the price lower at Rs 25 per kg. The government finally zeroed in on Rs 27 per kg after examining both proposals.
