Mumbai: Indian stock markets opened higher on July 5, 2019. BSE Sensex today recover the 40,000 mark and the Nifty inched closer to 12,000 level ahead of the Union Budget.
The 30-share index was trading 114.67 points higher at 40,022.73 at 09:30 am, while Nifty gained 31.85 points up at 11,978.60.
Top gainers in the Sensex pack in early trade included, Kotak Bank, HDFC, IndusInd Bank, HUL, Bajaj Auto, Asian Paints, RIL, and L&T rising up to 1.14 percent.
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, Yes Bank, ONGC, Vedanta, NTPC, ITC, TCS, and Hero MotoCorp, were among the losers, shedding up to 1.82 per cent.
On the currency front, the Indian rupee diminished 16 paise to 68.66 against the US dollar.
