Sensex ends 319 points higher, Nifty above 23,300

Indian equity indices ended higher on third straight session on January 16.

Sensex ended 318.74 points higher at 77,042.82, whereas Nifty concluded 98.60 points up at 23,311.80.

Biggest Nifty gainers included HDFC Life, Shriram Finance, SBI Life Insurance, Bharat Electronics, Adani Ports, while losers were Trent, Tata Consumer, Dr Reddy’s Labs, HCL Tech, Wipro.

In the previous season, Sensex ended 224.45 points higher at 76,724.08, whereas Nifty concluded 37.15 points up at 23,213.20.

Sugar stocks were in focus today following news of a likely ethanol price hike. The majority of sugar stocks traded higher on Thursday.

Indian rupee ended 19 paise lower at 86.55 per dollar on Thursday against Wednesday’s close of 86.36.
