Kothari Sugars not to operate Sathamangalam unit in sugar season 2024-25

Kothari Sugars and Chemicals Limited has announced the commencement of sugarcane crushing operations for the 2024-2025 sugar season at its Kattur unit in Tamil Nadu. However, due to insufficient sugarcane availability in the company’s command area to operate both units at optimal capacity, Kothari Sugars has decided not to operate the unit located in Sathamangalam for the 2024-2025 sugar season.

The Sathamangalam unit’s turnover was Rs. 200.41 crores (39%) for the financial year ended 31st March 2024, company informed exchange.

Kothari Sugars has two sugar units in Tamil Nadu, one in Kattur and the other in Sathamangalam village. In addition to sugar manufacturing, Kothari Sugars also has facility for co-generation of power, production of industrial alcohol from molasses and bio-compost from press mud and distillery effluents.

According to the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) data, sugar production in Tamil Nadu is expected to reach 8.50 lakh tonnes for the 2024-25 season, lower than the 10.75 lakh tonnes produced in 2023-24.
