Bareilly: Farmers protest action against selling sugarcane to other mills

Baheri (Bareilly), Uttar Pradesh: Farmers attending the Grievance Redressal Day on Saturday voiced their opposition to the actions being taken to prevent them from supplying sugarcane to other sugar mills. During the event, 26 complaints were registered, out of which five were resolved on the spot, reports Amar Ujala.

A delegation of farmers, led by Amarpal Singh, Tehsil President of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), and Chaudhary Ajit Singh, Media In-charge, participated in the Grievance Redressal Day. They highlighted an incident that occurred on Friday night when a team comprising the City Magistrate, ARTO, and officials from the Sugarcane Department stopped tractor-trolleys loaded with sugarcane at the Nadeli Chowk and Sitarganj Highway. The trolleys were on their way from Baheri, leading to a dispute.

The farmers criticized the authorities for labelling them as “mafia,” stating that such accusations were unjust. They pointed out that Kesar Sugar Mill has only made payments for 10 days so far. “If the sugar mill does not want to make payments, why should farmers supply sugarcane on credit?” they questioned. The farmers warned that if they are stopped from supplying sugarcane to other mills, they are prepared for an all-out fight.

Following the protest, BKU officials submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). The farmers demanded immediate resolution of their grievances and fair treatment in the sugarcane supply process.
