Indian Maritime Centre adds 12 new members, including Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and Adani Ports

The Indian Maritime Centre (IMC), a key organization for the maritime sector, has welcomed 12 new members, including the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd, expanding its membership to 20. This growth enhances IMC’s ability to foster a coordinated approach to maritime policy across various sub-sectors. Other new members include the Indian Register of Shipping, Indian Ports Association, Sagarmala Development Company Ltd, Container Shipping Lines Association, Indian Maritime University, Association of Container Train Operators, National Union of Seafarers of India, Cochin Shipyard Ltd, Cochin Port Authority, and Indian Port Rail and Ropeways Corporation.

“Just four months after its establishment, IMC is emerging as a leading body for the maritime sector,” stated Devki Nandan, Chairman of IMC, following a Board meeting on Thursday.

“For the first time in India, we have succeeded in uniting private trade associations, central and state government agencies, institutions, and companies under a single roof to promote the growth of our maritime industry. The increasing number of prominent industry bodies joining IMC shows its growing influence, and we expect our membership to continue expanding. From seven founding members, our membership has now nearly tripled to 20,” Nandan added.

Moreover, several State Maritime Boards, shipping companies, port authorities, and major ports are in the process of joining. This surge in interest from maritime stakeholders will further strengthen IMC’s ability to meet its objectives, Nandan emphasized. As the apex body representing India’s maritime interests, IMC will serve as a key facilitator for policy development and advocacy, bridging the gap between the industry and government. It will also support the sector by sharing the latest updates on technologies, laws, and best practices, helping to set international standards and state-of-the-art benchmarks in the maritime field.
