Uttar Pradesh: Sugar mills in Bareilly end crushing season early this season

Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh: The sugar mills in Bareilly district are facing a shortage of sugarcane this season. As a result, the crushing operations have come to a halt much earlier than expected, with most mills suspending operations ahead of schedule. Only one sugar mill continues its crushing process, but it is also expected to close by March 20. The crushing season, which usually runs until the end of April, has ended prematurely for most mills.

Out of the five sugar mills in the district, four have wrapped up their crushing sessions. The sugarcane crushing this season is expected to be lower than last year, as per estimates.

District Cane Officer Yashpal Singh explained that this year’s sugarcane production has been severely affected by the weather, particularly by heavy rains and flooding. Due to these conditions, four mills had already ceased operations by the first week of March. The mills that have closed include the Dhampur sugar mill in Mirganj, Kesar Enterprises in Baheri, and Dwarkesh Sugar Limited in Faridpur, along with the Oswal sugar mill in Nawabganj. Last year, these mills continued crushing operations until April 16.

Currently, the only mill still operating is the Semikhera Sugar Mill, which is expected to wrap up its season by March 20.
