Dr. Neelam Gorhe, Deputy Chairman of the State Legislative Council, called for the formation of a separate task force to effectively address the health issues of sugarcane workers in Maharashtra.
Presiding over a meeting held to discuss the report of the joint committee submitted to the government in the case of hysterectomy of women sugarcane workers in Beed district, she said that since the Sugar Cane Workers Corporation is functioning under the Social Justice Department, it should establish a task force under the chairmanship of the Social Justice Minister in collaboration with the Sugar Cane Workers Corporation and other concerned departments, according to the news report by UNI.
The creation of this task force is expected to speed up the resolution of the health problems faced by female sugarcane workers. Additionally, Dr. Gorhe also directed that action should be taken in accordance with the decision of the Bombay High Court and the recommendations of the committee report.
