On Monday, May NY world sugar #11 (SBK25) closed down by -0.13 (-0.72%), while May London ICE white sugar #5 (SWK25) ended the day up by +4.40 (+0.84%).
Sugar prices on Monday settled mixed, with NY sugar falling to a 2-3/4 month low. The market is facing downward pressure due to concerns that sugar demand may weaken amid fears that the global trade war is slowing economic growth and pushing up sugar prices for consumers. These concerns intensified after China raised tariffs on all U.S. goods from 84% to 125% last Friday, in response to the U.S. increasing its tariffs on Chinese products to 145%.
