Uzbekistan abolishes excise tax on white sugar imports

Uzbekistan has abolished the excise tax on white sugar imports starting October 1, 2025. This exemption will apply to white sugar that is imported without flavoring or coloring additives and is expected to help lower costs for businesses and consumers alike, reported Daryo.

This measures was discussed on April 18 during a video conference chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, focused on mitigating the impact of global economic shocks on the country’s sectors and industries, according to the local media in country.

During the meeting, officials noted that the confectionery and soft drink sectors have already become major contributors to domestic manufacturing, underscoring the importance of ongoing support. As part of this effort, the removal of the excise tax on sugar was approved.

Starting June 1, Uzbekistan will implement a new residence permit program, as outlined in a presidential decree cited by the Ministry of Justice. The initiative is designed to attract foreign nationals and stateless individuals by offering a simplified five-year residency process in return for a financial investment.
