Punjab: Sugar mill assures cane dues to be cleared soon depending on release of revenue from power generation and sugar sales

Jalandhar: Officials from the Golden Sandhar Sugar Mills Ltd told farmer leaders and government representatives that they still owe sugarcane farmers Rs. 2144.38 lakh for the current crushing season (2024-25). The announcement came during a meeting held at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office in Phagwara,

According to a mill representative, the company plans to pay the outstanding amount soon. The representative assured that the dues would be cleared soon, depending on the release of revenue from power generation and sugar sales, reported The Tribune.

Key people present at the meeting included Gaurav Singh, the Naib Tehsildar of Phagwara, Mukesh Kumar, the Assistant General Manager of Golden Sandhar Sugar Mills Ltd, and farmer union leaders Kripal Singh Musapur, president of Bharti Kisan Union (Doaba), and Satnam Singh Sahni, a member of the same union.

Speaking on behalf of the farmers, union representatives stressed how important it is for them to receive their payments on time, highlighting the financial problems many are currently facing.

Government officials at the meeting assured the farmers that they are dedicated to making sure the outstanding payments are made without further delays.
