May NY world sugar #11 (SBK25) Friday closed up +0.26 (+1.45%), and August London ICE white sugar #5 (SWQ25) closed up +9.50 (+1.88%).
Sugar prices on Friday rose to 2-week highs and settled moderately higher. Dry weather in Brazil may curb sugarcane yields and is boosting prices. Brazil forecaster Somar Meteorologia said the chances for rain in Brazil’s sugar-growing regions look limited into next week.
Sugar prices also have carryover support from last Thursday when the Indian Sugar and Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) reported that India’s sugar production from Oct 1-Apr 15 was 25.5 MMT, down -18% from the same period last year.
