UAE’s Al Khaleej Sugar plans to build sugar plant in Kazakhstan

One of the world’s leading sugar industry companies, Al Khaleej Sugar from the United Arab Emirates, plans to build a sugar plant in Kazakhstan’s Almaty Region, according to Kazinform News Agency.

The project was the focus of discussions during a meeting between Marat Sultangaziyev, governor of the Almaty region, and Sheikh Jamal Al Ghurair, Managing Director of Al Khaleej Sugar.

Governor Sultangaziyev emphasized the agricultural potential of the Almaty region, underlining the importance of adopting modern technologies and partnering with experienced stakeholders to drive progress.

A statement from the regional administration noted that discussions included potential locations for the plant, areas suitable for sugar beet cultivation, and current challenges related to water supply. A land plot near the town of Konayev emerged as the most favorable site due to its logistical strengths. However, ensuring a reliable water source remains a challenge, with alternative irrigation solutions still under consideration.

Sheikh Jamal Al Ghurair stressed the importance of a consistent water supply for agricultural operations and noted that the project demands thorough planning, including the involvement of top hydrology consultants.

Investors are also evaluating the feasibility of building wind power plants to fully support the facility’s energy requirements.

The goal is to establish a self-sustaining operation powered entirely by renewable energy, thereby reducing environmental impact, said Al Ghurair.

It was also agreed during the meeting to engage expert consultants for an in-depth assessment of regional water resources, with the objective of identifying the most viable irrigation methods to support the success of the project.
