New Delhi: To help visually challenged people in identifying currency notes, the Reserve Bank of India will come out with a mobile application soon.
While scouting for a vendor to develop the mobile application, the central bank said, “The Reserve Bank of India has been sensitive to the challenges faced by the visually challenged in conducting their day to day business with Indian banknotes.”
The RBI has invited tech firms to develop the app. RBI said, “The proposed mobile app would be able to recognize the denomination of notes of Mahatma Gandhi Series and Mahatma Gandhi (New) series by capturing the image of the notes placed in front of the mobile camera.”
According to the reports, about 80 lakhs blind or visually impaired people in India is likely to get benefited from this.
In November 2016, after demonetisation old notes of Rs 500, and Rs 1000 became void, and new currency notes have been put in circulation.
