Mysuru: As Mysugar and Pandavapura Sahakari Sakkare Karkhane (PSSK) in Karnataka are struggling to re-start, it has impacted the lives of sugarcane farmers in the region. Now, according to the reports, state Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has assured of reviving both the sugar mills.
Recently, the delegation of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) met Yediyurappa to divert his attention towards an agrarian crisis in the state and also to seek permanent solutions for the same.
KRRS leader Darshan Puttannaiah while addressing the media said, “CM has assured of initiating measures to revive the State-owned Mysugar (Mysore Sugar Company Ltd.) and the cooperative sector sugar mill PSSK.”
During the meeting with the CM, KRRS requested the CM to shift sugarcane farmers under these mills to other mills in Mandya and other districts and also asked to bear the transportation cost for the same.
According to the reports, in order to revive the mill, the government will study the feasibility of the mills and will send a technical team for inspections.
Recently, Sugar Minister R.B. Timmapur has said that MySugar factory in Mandya will re-start functioning in August.
Sugarcane farmers in the state are already under stress as they have been waiting for the pending cane dues. Following which, they have intensified their protest against mills and government. Earlier, the farmers’ delegation had met former Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy to make him aware of the farmers suffering. Following which, he assured the delegation clearance of dues by sugar mills.
