Haryana government takes control of ailing Naraingarh sugar mill

Ambala: The state government has taken charge of the ailing Naraingarh sugar mill as the mill failed to pay cane arrears to sugarcane farmers. The private mill had also not paid salaries of over 400 employees from the last few months, and therefore protest was launched against the mill. Following which the government comes to rescue.

Aditi, Naraingarh SDM stated that Ambala deputy commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma has been made the chairman of the mill and the Managing Director of the Harco Bank will be the director (finance) of the mill.

Rs 38 crore was transferred to the farmers’ bank accounts on Saturday and so far dues around Rs 43 crore out of Rs 79.5 crore was cleared.

In the month of August, sugarcane farmers, who gave their sugarcane to the private sugar mill in Ambala, had intensified their protest due to non-payment of cane arrears. They staged a demonstration outside the sugar factory demanding mill to pay the dues of the 2018-2019 season at the earliest. The stir came to an end when Haryana cabinet announced the financial help to Naraingarh sugar mill.
