Gonda: From time to time, police run the campaign to make people aware of cyber fraud, but still victims fall in prey to the fraudsters. In a recent incident, the sugar mill officer from Uttar Pradesh gets conned by cyber-criminal.
Datoli police have registered a case under relevant sections of IPC against seven persons for allegedly cheating a sugar mill officer to the tune of Rs 8.89 lakh on the pretext of offering him foreign exchange.
According to senior division chief Krishnapal, on August 17 the officer came in contact with a woman through Bharat Matrimony who revealed her name as Anita Sannith. She sent him a parcel on August 25. When the package reached Mumbai, he was told that it contains foreign exchange and he needs to pay Rs 8.89 lakh to get delivery. Accordingly, he transferred the money to the account of the concerned courier office. One month passed after paying the money, but he did not receive any parcel. Realizing that he has been cheated, he lodged a complaint with the local police.
