Vijayapura: Darbar Educational Institute is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi innovatively by exchanging sugar for plastic.
The institute will give 1 kg of sugar in exchange for the same quantity of plastic. The institute has purchased five quintals of sugar which will be distributed on October 2.
Rajesh Darbar, president of the institution, said, “This unique idea will help us to spread awareness against the use of plastic. There is no limit for exchanging plastic, but it should not be less than one kg. This will encourage people to give up plastic.” The collected plastic will be handed over to the city corporation for recycling. People have to come with Aadhar card for exchanging plastic.
