Bulandshahr: The Wave sugar mill is preparing to commence cane crushing from November 13, but the farmers are mulling to agitate against the mill for pending arrears around Rs. 39 crores.
The agitation is led by Ganna Kisan Sangharsh Samiti. Sangram Singh, president of the organisation, said, “If mill will delay in starting the crushing season and or fails to clear the pending arrears before commencement, then we will launch demonstration against the mill. If required, then we will also lodge a complaint against the mill to state CM.”
The mill run by Wave Company was earlier owned by the UP government. It was sold to the company during the BSP regime for a mere Rs 29 crore. The mill stopped functioning after two years but had to continue after farmers launched an agitation. But mill failed to clear the cane dues citing financial scarcity as a reason.
Devrai Singh, an officer attached with the Wave sugar mill, said that the mill has completed the process to start crushing season and is planning to pay farmers their dues as early as possible.
D K Saini, district cane officer, Bulandshahar said, “The mill will start crushing, and we have issued orders to the mill in this regard. The farmers need not be a worry as we ensure that the mill administration will clear all their dues soon.”
