Pune: Bhimashankar cooperative sugar mill will increase its cane crushing capacity to 6000 tonnes. The mill will also start ethanol production and is setting up a distillery for the same, informed Dilip Walse Patil, chairman of the mill.
“During the last crushing season, we crushed 8,12,990 tonnes of sugarcane for 180 days and produced 9,62,475 quintal of sugar with the recovery of 11.85 per cent. This year the situation is different. Drought and excessive rainfall impacted the sugarcane; therefore, this year, sugarcane production will decline, and less sugarcane will be available for crushing. This year we have set a target of crushing 5.50 lakh tonne sugarcane,” he said.
