Panji: Yet it uncertain whether Sanjivani Sugar mill will run in next season. Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant said the state assembly on Wednesday, “The State government is yet unsure whether the mill register profit or not even if get repaired. The government bears an annual loss of Rs 25 crore, including expenditure on subsidies.”
“The mill has accepted maximum sugarcane out of total 25,000-tonne sugarcane cultivated by the farmers and we are releasing their payments soon. The remaining 4000-5000 tonne sugarcane will be accepted soon. The farmers have doubt over continuing with cultivation and we told them to go ahead and cultivate the crop. We have not taken any decision on Sanjivani as of now,” he said.
At present, the factory procures cane from farmers and sends it to Laila Sugar Factory at Khanapur in Karnataka for crushing.
