State government should take over Naraingarh sugar mill: Congress MLA

Chandigarh: The state council of ministers in Harayana had approved Rs 60-crore loan to Naraingarh Sugar Mill in August 2019 to clear sugarcane dues, but as per reports, the mill has yet not paid Rs 5.49 crore cane dues. The information was shared by Haryana agriculture minister JP Dalal during question hour in the state assembly while responding to the query raised by Naraingarh Congress MLA Shalley Choudhary.

According to the reports, the mill has issued post-dated cheques of about Rs 35.31 crore to farmers for 2018-19 crushing season. Dalal informed that the has made a payment of about Rs 29.82 crore.

Congress MLA Choudhary said, “Cane growers staged a demonstration to seek payment of cane arrears by the private sugar mill. I suggest that the state government should take over this sugar mill.”

Dalal has assured that the pending arrears worth Rs 5.49 will be cleared by March 17.
