Bijnor: The Sugarcane farmers staging agitation over the pending cane dues called off their agitation after they got assurance that Rs 65 crore Rs dues would be cleared. They were agitating outside 21 police stations in Bijnor for pending arrears worth Rs 725 crore from the nine sugar mills.
Digambar Singh, state president of Bharatiya Kisan Union’s youth wing said, “Of these nine mills Chandpur, Bilai and Barkatpur have paid almost nothing to the farmers.”
“We called off agitation after the administration assured us payment of Rs 65 crore. The mills paid Rs 32 crore on Tuesday and will clear Rs 33 crore in next 15 days. If the administration fails to clear dues, we will do agitation again,” he said.
