19:31 IST: Latest technologies being used to manage COVID-19 cases: Health Ministry
The latest technologies are being used for the management of COVID-19 cases in the country, said Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, here on Tuesday. “We are using the latest technologies across various states for the management of COVID-19. The real-time tracking of ambulances, tracking likely to be COVID-19 patients, their contacts, updating citizens with the latest information, and training of health professionals are being done by using these technologies,” Aggarwal told media here. He said the dedicated facilities for COVID-19 are divided into three parts for containing COVID-19 — COVID Care Centre, Dedicated COVID Health Centre and Dedicated COVID Hospitals.
19:29 IST: 15 new COVID-19 cases reported from Jammu and Kashmir
Six new cases were reported from Jammu division on Tuesday and nine new cases were reported from Kashmir, informed the Principal Secretary (Planning) of Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday.
The number of coronavirus cases in the state now stand at 125, he further informed. “118 are active cases, 24 cases in Jammu Division, 94 in Kashmir. Six new cases were reported in Jammu division today and nine in Kashmir. Aggressive contact tracing is on,” he said.
18:59 IST: Over 50 per cent of total cases in Uttar Pradesh linked to Tablighi Jamaat: Principal Health Secretary
A total of 314 people have been found positive in the state till now, of which more than 50 per cent are connected to Tablighi Jamaat, Uttar Pradesh Principal Health Secretary Amit Mohan said on Tuesday. “A total of 314 people have been found positive in the state till now, of which 168 are connected to Tablighi Jamaat. This shows that more than 50 per cent of the cases are linked to Tablighi Jamaat,” Mohan told media here. “The cases were reported across 37 districts of the state. We have sent 6073 samples for testing. A total of 5595 turn out to be negative and 314 turned positive,” he added.
He further told that a total of 22 people have recovered from COVID-19. He informed that psycho-social-counselling is available with the health department helpline on 18001805145.
18:55 IST: Indore reports 9 more positive cases of COVID-19, total count reaches 160
Nine more cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Indore, said Dr Pravin Jadiya, Chief Medical Officer, on Tuesday. “With 9 more positive cases of coronavirus, the total number of cases in Indore has gone up to 160,” Dr Jadiya told ANI. “However, there has been no increase in the number of deaths and as of today three people have been discharged after their repeated tests came negative,” he said.
Speaking on recent discussions of extending the lockdown period, the CMO said, “The lockdown period made it easier for people to follow quarantine and isolation. Till now, in several states the situation could be brought under control due to the lockdown, however, extending the lockdown for few more weeks would help in bringing down the number of coronavirus cases.”

16:47 IST: With 354 new cases, India’s COVID-19 count goes up to 4,421
With 354 new cases of COVID-19 and eight deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total count of coronavirus positive cases in the country has gone up to 4,421, said the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Tuesday. “A total of 4,421 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in India till now as 354 new cases were reported since yesterday. A total of 117 deaths have been reported so far including 8 deaths reported since yesterday,” Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said during daily media briefing. Aggarwal further said that till now 326 persons have been discharged after recovering the infection, adding the government is adopting a strategy for cluster containment.
15:41 IST: 23 more COVID-19 cases in Haryana, state tally reaches 102
23 more COVID-19 cases were reported from Haryana on Tuesday, taking the total count of coronavirus cases in the state to 102. According to the state health department, out of the total 23 positive coronavirus cases reported today, seven are from Faridabad and 16 are from Nuh. So far, 15 people have been cured of COVID-19, while two have lost their lives to the infection in the state, a bulletin by the state Health Department stated.

15:21 IST:COVID-19: Abe declares state of emergency in Japan
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Tuesday declared a month-long state of emergency for Tokyo, Osaka, and five other prefectures in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The local media reported that Japan has so far recorded more than 4,041 cases and 108 deaths. The declaration will come into effect on Wednesday. Specifically, it covers the capital and other major prefectures including Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Osaka, Hyogo and Fukuoka, Xinhua news agency reported.
The declaration will give prefectural governors more power to take preventative measures to curb the continued spread of the virus, the cases of which have been steadily increasing, particularly in urban areas.
14:54 IST: Arvind Kejriwal announces 5-T plan to combat COVID-19 spread in Delhi
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that the state government has formed a five-step plan –“5 Ts Plan”, after talking to the experts to control the spread of COVID-19 in the national capital in the future. “The first T is testing. If you don’t test, you won’t be able to find out which houses have been affected. It’ll go on spreading. South Korea identified every single individual through large scale testing. We are now going to do mass testings like South Korea,” the Chief Minister said. He added that the countries that did not conduct testing were unable to control the spread of COVID-19.
“We have ordered kits for the testing of 50,000 people. The kits have started arriving. We have also placed orders for the rapid test of 1,00,000 people. The deliveries of kits will begin by Friday. Random tests will be done at hotspots. Detailed tests will also be done,” said Kejriwal.

An FIR has been registered against 150 people, associated with Delhi’s Tablighi Jamaat, here at Azad Maidan police station for violating quarantine and official preventive orders, police said. The FIR has been lodged under Sections 271 and 188 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). “FIR registered against 150 people of Tablighi Jamaat at Azad Maidan police station for violating quarantine orders (IPC Section 271) and violating govt official preventive order (IPC Section 188). FIR also registered under IPC Section 269, besides the earlier two sections of 271 and 188,” the police said.

23 more COVID-19 cases were reported from Maharashtra on Tuesday, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 891.

Nineteen new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from Gujarat on Tuesday, according to the State Health Department. Thirteen were confirmed from Ahmedabad, three from Patan and one each from Bhavnagar, Anand and Sabarkantha. With this, the state tally of positive COVID-19 cases climbed to 165. Fifteen places in Gujarat are presently cluster quarantined — three places in Surat, two in Vadodara, two in Bhavnagar and eight in Ahmedabad, Jayanti Ravi, Principal Secretary, Health, said on Monday.

The United States death toll from the novel coronavirus topped 10,000 on Monday (local time), according to Johns Hopkins University statistics. The US has the third-highest number of reported deaths from the disease in the world, only exceeded by Italy with 15,887 and Spain with 13,055, Al Jazeera reported. White House medical experts have forecast that between 100,000 to 240,000 Americans could die as a result of COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus, even if sweeping orders to stay home are followed.
10:54 IST: India lifts temporary ban on supply of hydroxychloroquine, paracetamol to help some nations affected by COVID-19
India on Tuesday temporarily licensed the export of paracetamol and anti-malarial drug Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in appropriate quantities to some countries, which have been particularly badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
“In view of the humanitarian aspects of the pandemic, it has been decided that India would license paracetamol and Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in appropriate quantities to all our neighbouring countries who are dependent on our capabilities,” MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said in a statement. “We will also be supplying these essential drugs to some nations who have been particularly badly affected by the pandemic. We would, therefore, discourage any speculation in this regard or any attempts to politicise the matter,” the spokesperson added.
10:26 IST: 16 more COVID-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh
16 more people, including an infant, have tested positive for coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh, according to a health bulletin by King George’s Medical University, Lucknow on Tuesday.
Among the 16 patients, five are above the age of 60 years, said Dr Sudhir Singh, in-charge of isolation ward KGMU.
10:03 IST: The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra’s Thane district rises to 106
The total number of positive cases in the district stands at 106 said the Thane District collector, here on Tuesday.
“The cumulative number of people under observation was 6039, out of which the number of people completed 14 days observation period stands at 4063. The number of people referred to was 427, of which 106 were tested positive for COVID-19”, said the district collector. Out of the 106 who tested positive, 13 people have been discharged and five people have died due to the deadly virus.
With 120 new cases of COVID-19 in Maharashtra, the total number of confirmed cases in the state has increased to 868 and the death toll in the state stands at 52.
09:50 IST: India’s tally of positive COVID-19 cases rise to 4,421
With an increase of 354 COVID-19 cases, India’s tally of total positive cases rose to 4,421, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday.
Out of the 4,421 cases, 3,981 are active cases while 325 cases have been cured or discharged and one migrated. The total death toll stands at 114. According to the ministry, Maharashtra is the worst-hit state with 748 cases and Tamil Nadu is in second place with 621 cases.
