India is witnessing rise in coronavirus (Covid-19) cases. And to control the spread of Covid-19, the government has taken measures like Lockdown, which has been extended till May 3.

18:17 IST: Total count of COVID-19 cases in India rose to 17,656
The total number of coronavirus positive cases on Monday rose to 17,656 in India, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Out of these, 14,255 patients are active cases and 2,842 cases have been cured or discharged and migrated. The COVID-19 toll now stands at 559. Earlier in the day, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, said that Mahe in Puducherry, Kodagu in Karnataka and Pauri Garhwal in Uttarakhand have not reported any COVID-19 case in the last 28 days.
Aggarwal said that the Health Ministry has expressed its views that India wants to work with G20 nations to develop the vaccine to combat COVID-19. He further said that ministry has also issued guidelines regarding precautionary measures to be adhered to in government offices.
17:24 IST: COVID-19 doubling rate improves to 7.5 days: Health Ministry
The government on Monday said that India’s COVID-19 doubling rate has improved to 7.5 days from 3.4 days before the lockdown was enforced. “India’s doubling rate before the lockdown was 3.4 days. It has now improved to 7.5 days. As per data on April 19, in 18 states, the rate is better than the national average,” Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, said at a daily briefing here. Aggarwal informed that various states and UTs have a doubling rate of less than 20 days.
17:12 IST: One more person tests positive for COVID-19 in Andaman and Nicobar
Andaman and Nicobar Islands Chief Secretary Chetan Sanghi on Monday said that one more person has tested positive for COVID-19. With this, the total number of positive coronavirus cases now stands at five in the Union Territory, he said. The man who tested positive had come in contact with one of the four positive cases.
16:39 IST: Five more COVID-19 hospitals launched in Odisha
Five COVID-19 hospitals were launched in Odisha on Monday to strengthen the state’s preparations in the fight against the highly infectious virus. According to a press release, Patnaik interacted with the doctors and health workers during the launch. Minister of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Steel Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi and Odisha Health Minister Naba Das were also present at the launch programme. The five COVID-19 hospitals have been set up in Sundargarh, Bargarh, Angul, Jagatsinghpur and Nabarangpur districts and have a bed capacity of 825. With this, the COVID-19 hospitals in the state are now functional in 26 districts with a bed capacity of 5,000.
16:04 IST: Five more Delhi Police personnel test positive for COVID-19
Five more personnel from the Chandni Mahal police station have tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, Delhi Police said. With this, a total of 8 personnel from the police station have so far tested positive for COVID-19. Security was deployed in Chandni Mahal, hours after it was declared as one of the containment zones late on April 10 by the Delhi government. The administration has sanitised the entire area and is providing door-to-door delivery of the essential commodities to the residents.
15:26 IST: No relaxation of any kind, lockdown to remain imposed till May 3: Bihar DGP
Refuting certain rumours about easing coronavirus restrictions, the Director-General of Police (DGP), Bihar on Monday clarified that there is no relaxation in the lockdown. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has allowed the resumption of some activities.
14:54 IST: Rajasthan reports 40 more COVID-19 cases
40 more coronavirus cases have been reported from Rajasthan till afternoon, said the State Health Department on Monday. Earlier today, 17 people were confirmed of coronavirus. “A total of 57 more COVID-19 cases and 2 deaths have been reported today in the state, of which 43 are from Jaipur, 6 from Jodhpur and 3 from Kota,” said the Health Department.
With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in the state has reached 1,535. The state has also reported 25 deaths so far.
13:58 IST: Five more COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, state tally reaches 395
Five more coronavirus cases have been reported in Karnataka, taking the tally of COVID-19 cases in the state to 395, said Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday. Taking to Twitter, Yediyurappa also released an advisory for Tablighi Jamaat attendees, information about telemedicine facility, and a coronavirus watch application and helpline. “COVID-19: Morning Bulletin. Total Cases: 395. Deceased: 16. Recovered:111. New Cases: 5. Other information: Telemedicine facility, Instructions to Tablighi Jamaat Attendees, #Corona Watch Application and Helpline details,” Yediyurappa tweeted along with the advisory.
The advisory urged any person who attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi to contact 08029711171 Arogya Sahayavaani.
“Corona watch mobile application can be downloaded from www.Karnataka.gov.in. In the application, you can see the spots visited by positive patients up to 14 days prior to testing positive. Also, it shows the nearest first respondent hospitals and helpline numbers,” it added.
13:28 IST: 17 more COVID-19 cases in Kanpur, district tally reaches 74
17 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Kanpur, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the district to 74. “There were 49 active cases here. Now, as per Microbiology Department’s report this morning, 17 more positive cases have been found,” said Dr Ashok Shukla, Kanpur Chief Medical Officer. Out of the total COVID-19 cases in Kanpur, seven people have been discharged and one person has passed away.
12:49 IST: 110 more COVID-19 cases in Delhi, tally rises to 2003
With 110 more cases of COVID-19 reported from the national capital yesterday, the total number of coronavirus cases in the city has risen to 2003, said Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Monday. “Test reports came for 2054 persons out of which 110 were COVID-19 positive. 1,283 persons out of the total persons who have tested positive are under 50 years of age. There are 320 people between the age of 50-60. 386 patients are above the age of 60,” Jain said. “There have been 45 deaths out of which 25 were aged above 60. While 38 persons who died had co-morbidity with a serious disease,” he added.
11:34 IST: 108 new COVID-19 cases reported in Gujarat
The Gujarat Health Department on Monday said that 108 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the State, taking the total number of cases to 1,851. The total number of cases in the state include 106 patients who have been discharged and 67 deaths.
11:13 IST: UP doctor who tested positive for COVID-19 dies while undergoing treatment
A doctor who was confirmed of coronavirus died on April 19 late night, said Moradabad Chief Medical Officer Dr MC Garg on Monday. “A COVID-19 positive doctor, who was undergoing treatment at Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) medical college, died last night,” said Dr Garg.
10:32 IST: 3 more COVID-19 cases reported from Nagpur
Three more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Nagpur, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the district to 76, the district information office informed on Monday. Till now, 4,203 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Maharashtra. As many as 223 persons have succumbed to the virus in the state. 507 persons have been cured and discharged.
09:46 IST: Rajasthan reports 17 new COVID-19 cases, total count reaches 1,495
As many as 17 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Rajasthan, taking the total count to 1,495, said the State Health Department on Monday.
“Of the 17 new COVID-19 cases that have been confirmed today, 8 are from Jaipur, 2 from Kota, 2 from Jhunjhunu, 1 from Nagaur, 1 from Banswara, 1 from Ajmer and 2 from Jodhpur,” said the Health Department. It further said, “A 62-year-old male from Nagaur was confirmed COVID-19 positive was admitted on April 18 and died on April 19 late night. He was suffering from hypertension.” 24 deaths have been reported from the state.
