India’s COVID-19 cases surge to 28,380
With 1,463 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the last 24 hours and 60 deaths, India’s total count of coronavirus cases has surged to 28,380, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday. The total cases are inclusive of 6,361 cured and discharged patients, one migrated and 886 deaths. At present, there are 21,132 active COVID-19 cases in the country. During the daily media briefing, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, here said that 16 districts in the country, which earlier had cases, have not reported any fresh cases for the last 28 days. The three new districts, which got added to this list are — Gondia in Maharashtra, Devangere in Karnataka and Lakhisarai in Bihar. Apart from that, 85 districts in States and Union Territories have not reported any new cases in the last 14 days, he said.
19:27 IST: 14 new COVID-19 cases in Gautam Buddh Nagar, count reaches 129
With 14 new COVID-19 cases reported in Gautam Buddha Nagar on Monday, the total confirmed cases in the district has reached 129.
“A total of 14 patients were found positive, of which there are six health workers. Total positive patients till now are 129,” said the District Surveillance Officer, Gautam Buddh Nagar.
18:18 IST: Combating COVID-19: India gifts medical gloves to Sri Lanka
India on Monday gifted a consignment of medical gloves to Sri Lanka in a bid to assist the island nation in its fight against coronavirus.
The consignment was handed over by Indian High Commission in Colombo to the Sri Lankan government, the high commission said in the statement. The island nation has so far reported over 550 coronavirus cases and seven deaths from the deadly virus. Earlier this month, India had sent about 13 tonnes consignment of essential life-saving medicines to the Government of Sri Lanka.

Rising to the occasion, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Kishori Pednekar has decided has returned to her old calling — nursing — to contribute in the fight against COVID-19. Pednekar was a nurse before coming to politics and has decided to join the team of BMC’s BYL Nair Hospital to aid the COVID-19 patients in their fight against the virus. Mayor Pednekar had earlier informed that 231 zones are out of the containment zone list after they didn’t record a single COVID-19 positive case for the last 14 days. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra is 8,068. Till now, 1,076 people have either been cured or discharged, while 342 deaths have been reported
15:55 IST: Spain registers 331 more deaths, toll rises to 23,251
Spain has recorded 331 more deaths linked to the coronavirus in the last 24 hours taking the COVID-19 toll in the country to 23,251, said the Health Ministry on Monday. The number of deaths in the last 24 hours has slightly increased from the previous day. On Sunday, the country’s Health Ministry had reported 288 deaths in 24 hours.
15:46 IST: Central team visits Hyderabad containment zone to review COVID-19 situation
A 5-member Central team led by Arun Baroka, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti, visited the containment zone at Masab Tank in Hyderabad to review the measures being taken to contain the spread of coronavirus. “The Central team visited the containment zone at Masab Tank to review measures to control the spread of coronavirus,” an official said. The official also said that the state authorities provided them with details of coronavirus prevention activities in the city. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Lokesh Kumar and Zonal Commissioner were also present during the inspection.
15:00 IST: Five out of eight NE states corona-free now: Jitendra Singh
Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh on Monday said that five out of the eight states in the North-East are corona-free now. He said that those five states are – Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura. “Three states in the region – Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram – are not corona-free but there have been no new positive cases in these states in the recent past,” Singh said. Singh said that the credit for the low incidence of cases in the North-east goes to the way the government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given priority to the region’s development in the past six years.
14:54 IST: Faridabad COVID-19 tally stands at 45
Faridabad administration has confirmed a total of 46 COVID-19 positive cases in the district. At present, there are 11 coronavirus active cases in the district and 35 have been cured and discharged. No COVID-19 death has been reported in the district so far as of April 27 till 11 am. “Total cases – 46, active cases – 11, cured and discharged – 35, deaths – 0,” Faridabad Deputy Commissioner Yashpal Yadav tweeted. Haryana has 289 positive coronavirus cases, of which 176 have been cured and discharged and 3 have succumbed to the virus, as per the Union Health Minister.
13:00 IST: 3 deaths, 55 more COVID-19 cases in Pune
Three deaths and 55 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Pune, the Health Department said. According to Health Department officials, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Pune has risen to 1,319, while the total number of deaths stood at 80. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra is 8,068.
12:37 IST: Maharashtra’s mortality rate due to coronavirus is 4.24%: Health Department
The mortality rate in Maharashtra due to coronavirus is 4.24 per cent said the State Health Department on Monday.”With 440 new COVID-19 cases, the total number of cases in Maharashtra has mounted to 8,068. Besides, the total number of deaths has reached 342 after 19 new deaths were reported,” said an official statement from the Health Department. The statement also said, “While India’s mortality rate is 3.13%, the mortality rate in Maharashtra due to coronavirus is at 4.24 per cent.”

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday said that migrants workers of Rajasthan stranded in other states due to lockdown will soon be returning home and appealed to the people to provide them with all possible help. “After much effort by State govt, migrants of #Rajasthan will soon be returning home from other states. These ppl suffered a lot during #lockdown. Now when they return, it is our moral duty to take care of them, provide them all help regarding food, medicines & quarantine facilities,” Gehlot tweeted. “My appeal to all is please give moral support to our brothers and sisters returning home after a very hard period. Following the culture of #Rajasthan that we never leave our people in distress, take proper care of the migrants,” he said in another tweet.
10:35 IST: 13 more COVID-19 cases in Bihar, state tally reaches 290
With 13 more COVID-19 cases, the total number of coronavirus cases reported in Bihar stands at 290, said Sanjay Kumar, Bihar Principal Secretary (Health) on Monday.
“13 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Bihar taking the total to 290 positive coronavirus cases,” said Kumar. “Out of the new cases; eight women and five men from Sadar Bazaar, Jamalpur, Munger have been reported. We are ascertaining their infection trail,” he said.
10:12 IST: Out of 461 samples, 6 test positive for COVID-19: KGMU Lucknow
Six persons among those whose samples were collected here on Sunday have tested positive for COVID-19, said King George’s Medical University, Lucknow on Monday. As many as 461 samples were collected on Sunday for COVID-19 testing. “Out of the 461 samples tested yesterday for coronavirus, results of 6 are positive,” said the Medical University.
So far, Uttar Pradesh has reported 1868 COVID-19 positive cases, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
10:02 IST: 36 more COVID-19 cases in Rajasthan, state count reaches 2,221
Three people have died due to COVID-19 and 36 more coronavirus cases have been reported from Rajasthan, the state Health Department said on Monday. “With 36 new COVID-19 positive cases reported in the state, the total number of positive cases here has mounted to 2,221,” read an official statement from the Health Department. Of 44 deaths that have been reported till now, three people from Jaipur died on Monday, the statement further read.
